Every business has intellectual property
-- ranging from the business name and trademark, sales literature, customer lists, and pricing formulas -- through software
developed for the business, unique business methods, and patentable inventions. There are many techniques available
to protect intellectual property -- including common-law trademarks, trademark registrations, copyrights, copyright registrations,
trade secret protection, provisional patents, and US and international patents. Every business owner must make
important decisions right from the start: choosing the right time for trademark and copyright registrations, establishing
trade secret protection, and starting the patent process within crucial time limits.
I am an intellectual property and business law attorney who has advised clients on each
of the issues listed above. My extensive technical and business law background also helps businesses and individuals
with patent prosecution and legal opinions. Patent prosecution includes creating a patent application, and
corresponding with the U. S. Patent Office to obtain the grant of a patent. My legal opinions have analyzed patent
validity/patent invalidity, patent infringement/patent non-infringement, or have provided accurate estimations of the
cash value of patents and patent applications.
My patent applications have
protected several types of inventions, such as:
- Software - Enterprise software
- Hardware - Computer architecture
- Electrical - Electrical wiring
- Electronics - Integrated circuits
- Magnetics - Magnetic thin film deposition
- Medical - Ultrasound imaging systems
- Mechanical - Thermal packaging
- Optical - Sensor arrays
- Telecommunications - Wireless telephone circuits
I have over 12 years of experience
as an electrical engineer for IBM in Boca Raton, Florida, Xerox PARC, and Sun Microsystems. My education includes a
M.S. from Stanford University and a PhD from the University of California, both in electrical engineering.
